Frequently asked questions
Do pure white composite decking boards get hot in the sun?
No, pure white composite decking boards stay significantly cooler than darker wood-look alternatives. Because white reflects the full spectrum of solar radiation rather than absorbing it, it remains comfortable to walk on barefoot even during intense mid-summer heat, making it ideal for pool surrounds. We have temperature tested these boards many times in full sun, and they stay cooler than a normal merbau style deck.
How do you keep white composite decking from staining?
Our pure white boards feature a fully capped, non-porous polymer shield. This prevents everyday spills like red wine, oil, or fallen leaves from penetrating the material. We have tested these boards many times for a whole range of cleaning chemicals. For example they will allow you to use turpentine to remove stubborn oil stains, degreaser can be used as can bleach. For regular maintenance, a simple wash down with soapy water or a quick and light pressure clean removes surface dirt easily.
Will pure white composite deck boards turn yellow over time?
No. The boards have a pure HDPE laminate, that is why our boards are pure white. They also have UV inhibitors and are highly resistent to fading and yellowing. We have been supplying this specific board for five years with no issues on the colouring.
Is white capped composite decking safe for saltwater pool surrounds?
Yes, absolutely, and for chemical pools. The boards are 100% moisture-resistant and completely impervious to pool chemicals, including chlorine and saltwater. They will not rot, splinter, or warp from constant water exposure, and providing a splinter-free surface for wet bare feet. We have tested these boards underwater in concentrated bleach solution for two months. They stayed white, they increased 1% of their weight in that period.
Are white composite decking boards slippery when wet around a pool?
No, our boards are designed with an embossed, matt finish anti-slip wood grain texture. They carry a high slip rating P5 specifically engineered to provide excellent traction and underfoot grip, even when completely wet from pool splashing.
Can you install white composite decking over an existing concrete patio?
Yes, you can install our white decking over concrete. If you need to have a low height gain, typically less than 70mm from the concrete then we can help. It is worth talking to us to discuss as each install is slightly unique depending on the exact heights involved.
How much gap do white composite deck boards need for expansion?
White boards expand and contract less than dark boards because they absorb less heat. Having said that they still require some structural gapping, and typically you would leave 2mm each end of a 5400mm white board, if they are subject ot full sun. If they are on a covered area then less can be planned for. The boards are fixed in place with our 3mm steel clip system to ensure they do not move around and creep once installed. We can advise you as have planned hundreds of decks.
Is white composite decking more expensive than painting timber white?
Yes, and no. While the upfront cost of a composite is higher than raw timber it is far more cost-effective long term. Even taken over 6 years then painted decks will crack, peel and requiring annual sanding and repainting. That can add up a lot. A white composite board delivers a permanent, zero-maintenance (you need to clean it) finish that never needs painting.

Is white composite decking suitable for marine environments and coastal pontoon boardwalks?
Yes and Yes absolutely.
This is one of the most durable boards for wet environments. We have tested these boards submerged for several months. They do not get effected by water ingress.
Unlike traditional timber which rots, warps and degrades when exposed to coastal salt spray, our white composite boards feature 100% moisture-resistant synthetic cores and outer laminate.
They are fixed with our stainless steel 314 clips and 304 fixing screws to ensure they dont rust down in the years ahead.
What color joists and hidden clips should I use under a white composite deck?
We recommend using dark grey or black joist protection tape (such as Joist Shield™) and our black 316 stainless steel hidden clip systems over your sub-frame.
These clips are made to provide a 3mm board gap, narrow enough to allow drainage and the best gap for appearance, clean narrow lines between boards and at the same time close enough to make sure that the clips and joists are barely visible.
We don’t suggest a wider 6mm gap plastic T clips for this reason, they just don’t look as good with that 6mm wide gap.
Will white composite decking glare or reflect too much sunlight into the home?
White decking is definitely a bright and clean look. We have finished this board with a brushed matt finish, and whilst it is a pure white decking board then it does not glare in the way a high gloss plastic would. The light is more diffused and less confronting than mmight be imagined.
The pure white has the distinct advantage that it also reflects heat and will stay incredibly cool in the summer heat, a great trade off for wearing sunnies, in our opinion.
How do you remove red dirt, clay, or leaf tannin stains from white composite decking?
The question we are asked a lot. White decking creates an onus to make sure it is as clean as possible, simply because dirt and stains show up more easily.
If you are in a red dirt and clay area then honestly look at some other colours that will take red dirt, unless you want to constantly clean the deck of red marks.
If you put this white decking under a gum tree and inhabited by bats then you will be constantly looking at marks and want to clean it off, consider another colour of decking for your own sanity.
Having said that, these boards are incredibly resilient to stains, and there is always a way to clean the stain off, and it usually takes knowledge as opposed to graft and a gurney. In fact a commercial gurny is the only approach that we have seen damage these boards, so be cautious and light touched with this method.
You can clean these with almost any cleaning product, we have soaked the boards in bleach, degreasers, turps, acetones and more. The board is resilient to these many chemicals.
The question is whether the stain you have is also resistent to the chemical currently sat in your shed, and whether you need to buy yet another product!
As a general rule then organic stains, leaves, berries, oils, moulds, saps, foods and similar are best treated with bleaches, oxidising agents and surfactants. This is usually the majority of proprietary cleaning products in some shape or form. Time and soft brushing is the key to these products.
If you somehow managed to get inorganic stains, rusts or cements then the general approach is to use acids such as oxalic, phosporic or citric.
Trying to clean one type of stain, organic or inorganic, with the wrong group of cleaners is fairly futile. Ie. you will not clean off rust stains with a cleaner designed for cleaning grease or mold.
