– ELITE Boards

Sun Decking ELITE slip rated composite decking is a superior co-extrusion laminated board.

Our Elite range has an outer shell of high-density plastic and provides a harder and more resistant surface. This is particularly valuable in areas which get more traffic, hard knocks and heavy use.

Elite boards are wet slip tested to AS4586:2013 P5 slip rating for both commercial use or peace of mind in residential settings.

ELITE IS $84.50 PER BOARD. EACH BOARD IS 5400MM LONG, 139MM WIDE AND 23MM DEEP.

– CLASSIC WPC Boards

Sun Decking CLASSIC is a smart and cost-effective choice for all outdoor decking projects.

This is a high-quality solid-core WPC (wood polymer composite) decking board and is the benchmark quality for pure WPC boards. There are many ways to create a WPC board and we have spent a lot of time ensuring that our boards have been manufactured with best in class processes and materials.

WPC is engineered by using resin to bond recycled plastic and forestry approved wood particles along with colouring and UV inhibitors to prevent fading. The result is a beautiful decking board that has many advantages over traditional timber and looks great. We outline these for you on our Advantages page.

It’s perfect for traditional decking installations where a practical and cost comparable alternative to timber is needed.

Sold as a solid 21.5mm 140mm profile it is strong, durable and also makes an excellent choice for landscaping or outdoor decking projects.

$62.50 PER BOARD. EACH BOARD IS 5400MM LONG AND 140MM WIDE.

Composite Fascia & Screening

We support our Elite and Classic range with decorative composite fascia & screening boards.  The fascia and screening boards are built to the same quality as our composite decking. This gives you the flexibility to finish the surrounds of your deck.

The boards are also useful in screening applications. We are increasingly asked to supply our fascia for fencing applications and this is not surprising as the boards need no staining or ongoing maintenance to stop them rotting.

Classic composite fascia is also used as a landscape edging. It is clean and unobtrusive and lasts for years in the ground. The fact that the boards are very flexible allows you to create curved designs easily and we supply in a dark grey colour to blend perfectly with your garden.

We match our fascia to our decking boards in terms of colour and the style so you can always be assured of a great finish to your decking project.

Our Elite Fascia boards are 100mm wide, 12mm thick and 5400mm long

• Priced at $39.00 per board inc GST

Our Classic Fascia boards are 130mm wide, 10mm thick and 5400mm long

• Priced at $32.00 per boards inc GST

– Fixing Clips

The hidden fixing clips are designed to fit in the rebates you see on the decking boards. We predominantly provide a range of stainless clips as a preference, and at the same time will supply the more common plastic fixing clips. All our composite board clips are 304 stainless steel as are the screws we provide.

We have designed our steel fixing clips to create a gap of 3mm only. A smaller gap such as this is often preferred because it looks more appealing. Our plastic clips achieve a slightly wider 5mm gap and give a markedly different look. Depending on your situation a 3mm gap may be required for building code in certain fire risk zones.

You will make your installation easier and faster when you use a clip system. The boards are laid with no damage to their integrity whatsoever. We have taken the time to source a selection of clips that eliminates the need to screw through the boards in almost all installations.

The deck looks much cleaner when fixed in this way and there will never be any issues for raised fixings catching bare feet.

You can use the composite decking clips on timber or steel joists. We provide screws that are stainless and designed for timber. They can be used in steel if the steel is pre-drilled. We also have a steel fixing screw in our range.

– Joist Shield

Installing or improving your deck structure with hardwood or treated timber joists is a major investment. Using Joist Shield™ before laying your decking is a judicious and easy way to secure that investment.

This is a high-quality black Butyl tape, made of an entirely impermeable material and used widely in the building, roofing, marine and RV sectors. Our Butyl Tape is chemically inert and resists oxidation, remaining permanently elastic.

Joist Shield is supplied as a 1mm thick material. It reseals when screws are driven through it, acting as a gasket. There is one face of adhesive butyl that creates a strong bond to the joist. A black PE film face on the top surface ensures it is super easy and convenient to install and decking can be laid immediately once the tape is in place.

There’s no need to nail or fix this to the joists, it permanently bonds immediately. We sell Joist Shield as a 60mm wide tape to cover max. 55mm joist widths with a small overlap. It is stocked in smaller 10m rolls for convenience when applying and it cuts easily and cleanly with scissors.

Joist Shield™ is priced at $13.00 per 10-meter roll.

– Solid core WPC Vs Laminated WPC Decking

Both of these types of rigid core boards are highly resistant to water.  It is one of the advantages of composite over timber. It can be used confidently in wet environments with no problems, there is a slightly higher resistance with an all-round laminated, yet not so much it will make a practical difference in all but extreme environments.

Both are also rot and termite resistant, easy to install, and specified to be laid on 450 max joist centers. Neither needs any ongoing maintenance beyond cleaning. The main differences include:

  • Colours:  It is a point that with a good laminated  product the colouring will have more depth to the tones, whilst this is of course subjective and a matter of choice it provides wider options for your design choices.
  • Durability: The main rationale for manufacturing a laminated product was to create a harder more durable surface. WPC will wear and scratch similar to timber (see our product care page) and a well-laminated decking will have a harder shell that makes it more resistant to hard knocks. laminated products often end up in commercial or very high use areas as a result.
  • Stain resistance: Whilst both boards resist stains and will wash well if you have accidental spillages there is a higher ability in laminated products as a result of the denser HDPE shell.
  • Style:  laminated allows a deeper emboss as mentioned, that allows for more finish options, most laminated boards having a wood effect style to create variance and lustre.
  • Slip resistance:  Most boards are rated similar and around P4. Slip is a function of the finish on the boards. Having said that, laminated products can hold a deeper embossing and so means that they can be manufactured to hold a higher slip rating if necessary.
  • Foot Feel: They both have similar thermal characteristics and so feel similar temperatures, some perceive a difference in feel, WPC feeling softer under bare feet.  It is not often a deciding factor.
  • Fade: The WPC and laminated boards will fade in the first two months in the Sun and then stabilise.  laminated boards have a better ability to resist UV fading with minimal tone changes over time, WPC slightly more.
  • Price: WPC boards are more cost-effective for the manufacturing reasons mentioned.

What Are Composite Products Anyway?

Of course, there are countless types of wood and plastic combinations and lots of ways to bind the two together. Don’t be fooled – there are many low-quality composite items on the market. Ours last, and we have a warranty and independent tests to back up their durability.
