What Is The Difference Between PVC Decking And Composite Decking?

PVC decking is made from a pure PVC, generally foamed PVC whilst Sun Decking composites are made from a blend of recycled timber and plastic. Both products feature a laminate cover which is an extra layer of protection that helps make them more durable and longer-lasting. The major differential is that PVC is not a recycled product, they have a higher propensity to expand and become malleable in direct sun.

Do Composite Decking Boards Get Hot in Queensland?

Yes, of course they get hot. We test temperature for comparison to other products all the time as this is a very common question and often misunderstood. In direct sun in summer the boards will be a similar temperature to that of concrete or tiles, most situations slightly cooler, since decking often has some ventilation underneath. They cool down much quicker than tiles. They are slightly hotter underfoot than timber, although if the timber is painted then the temperature is more or less the same. A lighter colour will make a few degrees difference in the temperature

Can You Put Timber Staining Products On Composite Decking?

If you have our Sun Decking Elite product then the answer is an absolute no! They are in no way enhanced by, nor require any staining or sealing products. Our Classic boards are a slightly different product, as a solid core high density WPC they can in some ways be likened to a very dense hardwood. Whilst they in no way require this to extend their life, in some situations you may want to change the appearance. How Long Do Composite Decks Last?

Composite decking can last over 20 years with proper installation and general care and maintenance. Composites will last this long as they contain a lot of recycled plastic, have antifungal and UV agents within them and as a very dense product are highly resistant to water ingress.
